If you've played in the last couple of week's you may have noticed the flags to the right of the 1st tee, the plan is to re-instate a tee here to give a different perspective to the opening hole for competition golf, also up for consideration is a fairway bunker on the right hand side of the 6th fairway around the 260yd mark from the white tee. The bunker here would be visible from the tee but it is not anticipated that the face of this bunker to be more than 3 feet high so a well executed shot from this hazard could reach the green. All comments are welcomed about these proposed improvements. Hi Tom, I like the idea of a new tee at the 1st.  I always thought you could put a tee behind the medal tee level with the small car park tight to the fence.  This area isn't as high up as the old tee but it would add some length, which for the longer hitters would bring the fairway bunker into range and possibly take the bunker out of range for the shorter hitters.

As for the bunker on the 6th I think the rough on the right is enough to make you want to hit the ball left so a bunker on the left I think would make the tee shot here a good test.

These are just my views but no doubt there will be many more from everybody else.

I know you may have trouble with timescales during the winter programme ie manhours, but have you ever thought of putting bunker up left side of 15th fairway on the natural hump and also one down left side of 17th fairway again we have a natural slope there also, this would be adjacent to 16th tee in distance. Maybe worth having a look OTM, see what you thinkWink

Paul, i like the idea of the 1st tee further back, unfortunately the material required to build this tee to the required height would be the problem, unless you can get us clearance to dig sand off the beach, Smile. Last year the bunker on the sixth fairway was discussed, and the position was to be on the left semi-rough, distance in line with the shelter behind the 9th tee but that would make it hidden from the tee, also that may punish a good shot played up the left which is the ideal line to open up the green entrance.

Clarkie, I have thought about a bunker up the left of 17, it would certainly make players think on the tee and 1 which could be built easily and quickly but a priority this winter is the dreaded 'perimeter fence repair Stern%20Smile' at the top end of the course so time would be an issue. I haven't thought about a fairway bunker on the left of 15, just moving the right hand side bunker towards the green a little onto the natural mound that sits in front of the face but if the committee decided the fence wasn't a priority Wink then hey ho, lets go!

Lets stick with the fence for now as that is the priority, always next winter if time runs out for future bunkers, some positive responses now though!!Clap

Agree with Smokiegooner on this one,up the left is definitely the place on the 6th.The only thing about that is you can hit a great drive and end up getting a horrible bounce due to the natural contours of the fairway, but hayho that's golf.AngryAngry

It would be good to get any improvements done this winter, can't even get close to re-building anything, let alone new projects LOLLOL. The last year of the n'oo'ughty's has certainly been challenging, global warming, mmmmmmmmmmm, i have my doubts, Confused. Mother Nature on another evolution, November saw Noah's return and December saw the ice age back!!!!!!!!!!. What will January bring?????

A good golf course should always adjust to whatever whether the place has. Any businessman wouldn't want anything to disappoint a client. After all, quality is defined by clients.
